The Program

12 weeks to a healthier you

Empower Caregivers is a structured online wellness program that meets you where you are. Spend about 90 minutes per week at your own pace, from the comfort of home.

Self-Care Activities

Guided exercises in mindfulness, movement, and relaxation designed to fit into your caregiving routine.

Expert Resources

Access curated content from healthcare professionals covering nutrition, sleep, stress management, and more.

Caregiver Education

Weekly lessons that help you understand caregiver burnout, set boundaries, and build sustainable wellbeing habits.

Who Can Participate

The program is open through two eligibility pathways. See which applies to you.

Alberta Residents

General caregiver pathway

  • Age 18 or older
  • Living in Alberta, Canada
  • Currently providing unpaid care to a family member or friend
  • Able to commit ~90 minutes per week for 12 weeks
  • Access to a device with internet connection

Across Canada

Liver condition caregiver pathway

  • Age 18 or older
  • Living anywhere in Canada
  • Caring for someone with a liver condition (e.g., cirrhosis, hepatitis, liver cancer)
  • Able to commit ~90 minutes per week for 12 weeks
  • Access to a device with internet connection

Dr. Puneeta Tandon

MD, MSc, FRCPC

Principal Investigator

Hepatologist and associate professor at the University of Alberta. Founded the internationally-recognized Cirrhosis Care Clinic in Edmonton. Her research develops practical tools for reducing stress and improving wellbeing in chronic illness caregivers.

Dr. Ashley Hyde

Dr. Ashley Hyde

PhD, RN

Co-Investigator

Registered nurse and assistant professor at the University of Alberta. Evaluates digital health interventions for people with chronic disease and their caregivers. Informed by personal caregiving experience, she champions patient-oriented research and design.
